Having abandoned my attempt at a marathon three years ago due to injury, I am now charging myself with getting back in the running shorts. I'm out of shape, overweight, and very unhappy about it. Watch me change!

I know it's easy to get down about things like this (or if not down, then at least to let them get to you a bit) but I think it is important to remember that you are running your own race--no matter how fast you run it, whether you walk parts of it or not, etc., it is your race and no one else's. I finished my first marathon upright, in minimal pain, and with a huge smile on my face; you don't have to be falling down and at risk of losing control of your body :) You do have a fair amount of choice when it comes to how you will feel when you are running those 26.2 miles!
