A Long Way to Go, but I've Come a Long Way

Guess what I did last night? I RAN more than two miles. ME! Yes, ME! .... The one who had trouble running for a minute straight. Now I'm up to 15 minutes of running/5 walking/15 running/5 walking. Am I still pathetically slow? Yes! Do I care? No! I'm just glad to be following through on my marathon quest.

When Jim and I left the house last night, neither of us felt like we were going to be able to do the 15 minutes at a time, although we kept it to ourselves so as not to discourage each other. We both were thirsty so we sat in Starbucks sipping for a few minutes and headed out from there. The run was GREAT! Neither of us struggled and nothing hurt. I even sprinted to the car when we were done. ('sprint' being a relative term if you know my athletic prowess)

For the record, I did all of my training last week. I had one lame run in there but from what I hear, it happens to everyone. I haven't posted much because things are just nuts around here. I'm swimming in a pool of chaos in my house, which I hope to remedy today.

Thanks to all who have come to visit my blog. I used to have a very different picture of the running community. I assumed it was made up of elitist athletes who looked down their noses at posers like me. I'm finding the complete opposite to be true. What a fun & diverse bunch.

Nice!! Good job on that run, and specially in your progress. The amazing thing with running is how by being consistent you can improve a lot. Keep at it, you wont believe where you'll be 3, 6 or 9 months from now!!!

Very nice - you will be surprised at how fast you meet your next goals. Getting to 2 or 3 miles really is the hardest part - now your body has learned how to get in the "coast" mode and pretty soon you will be out doing your 2 miles and think "I can do 2 more." This is when things get fun.

HI!! I just stumbled upon your blog, and wanted to say way to go on your two miles! Woo-Hoo!! Oh, and great video of Anderson-Scheiss, that was painful to watch. Amazing how far we've come in the sport! Happy Trails!

Hoorah! for you. Two miles seems so unfathomable to me right now. Awesome.

Congratulations on the progress you've made. It is an awsome feeling every time you go just a little further or a little faster isn't it? I'm glad you stopped by, now I have another running blog to read.

Once you get over that 2-3 mile hump, there's no turning back! I find once I can get past that 2 mile barrier, mentally and physically, I'm good to go!

Next time you are scheduled for an increase in running, remember how good it feels when you succeed. This is what leads to the addiction!

I am looking forward to following your continued progress. Most of the running community I have encountered have been very helpful and excited to share their sport with anyone that is willing to learn and push themselves.
