A Change in Scenery

It looks like I'll be spending more time smelling chlorine and less time staring at asphalt. I went to the Sports Medicine Doc today. Being an inexperienced runner, I just wasn't sure if the pain was something I should get tough and run through or rest from. Apparently, my instincts were correct. I shouldn't be running right now. I will be going to the physiotherapist thrice next week, and every week up until the marathon. In the meantime, he has suggested that I swim like crazy to keep the cardio workout intense without bothering my legs.

It is actually my bursa in the upper portion of my lower leg. I just thought it was my calf muscle. He thinks I might still have a shot at completing the marathon, but we'll have to see. It was just nice to be able to pinpoint exactly what the problem is. This guy was good! He asked more questions and listened more than any doctor I've ever had in any field of medicine. His staff was terrific. If you live anywhere near here, and find yourself needing a Sports Medicine guy, give him a call.....Dr. Michael Montico in Milford, MI. He's a family practice doc as well.

I'm sorry I haven't been by in a while. I posted and went into all of why I haven't been. Please forgive me. But thank you so much for checking in on me while I was out of the loop.

You're doing great it looks like. Keep up the good work!!

Oh no! That is too bad. I am glad you did not push yourself through it.

Do you think there is a really good chance you will still be able to do the marathon?

I wish I could find a doctor like that here in CT. I have been having one issue after another trying to run and can't figure out what my problem is.

I hope everything goes well for you and that you are able to run the marathon.

I'm so glad you were able to get a diagnosis. Sometimes it is hard to figure out what is wrong, but once you have that it is easier to mentally know that you have something to focus on repairing/recovering from!

I hope you are able to do your marathon. But even more so, I hope you have a swift and positive recovery.

Thank you for the positive thoughts on my post the other day. It came through just in time to perk me up for my long run today and I needed that.

Karen, so sorry to hear that! But you were smart to go now - you still have time, and yes, he's right about the biking and swimming like crazy. My running partner was told to do the workout for 1.5 of the time that you'd otherwise spend running. you're in the taper phase anyway, now, right?
